Care Instructions

Menstrual pads

  • It really is simple, rinse them under cold water once removed. Then when you are ready to wash, stick them in a delicates bag and wash them with your regular load.
  • We suggest you use the sunshine to dry the underwear. The UV will help to sterilise and kill any residual bacteria and odours.
  • You can use a dryer on low heat if you prefer. Be sure to keep the washing and drying temperature under 80℃ and don’t use any fabric softener or bleach on them!

Menstrual cup

  • Your Accalia Cup is not supplied in a sterile state and must be sterilised before use and at the end of each cycle.
  • To sterilise your Accalia Cup – Fill a pot with water so there is sufficient water to cover the menstrual cup, bring the water to the boil. Place your Accalia cup in the water for 3-5 minutes. Do not leave the pot unattended or allow the pot to boil dry. Air dry your Accalia Cup, preferably in the sun as this will offer UV sterilisation also.
  • During your cycle wash your cup under cold water each time you empty it. Do not use an oil-based soap on your Accalia Cup.

HINT: Using cold water for initial rinsing will help prevent staining and odours.

FAQs - Cups / Pads

No, you can’t “lose” your Accalia cup in your vagina. Your vagina has a dead end to it (your cervix). If you can’t find the stem to your cup, relax, the tenser you are the harder it will be to find it. Sit down on the toilet and bare down with your pelvic floor muscles. You may find that you need to give yourself a half-hour break then try again.

Provided your Accalia cup is well looked after it will last for approximately 10 years. If you currently use the S cup and have a vaginal childbirth you may need to go to the L cup.

No, we advise you take your Accalia cup out first.

Yes, if your cervix typically sits low then you may need to. Make sure you don’t cut it too high and end up with a hole in the base of your cup.

Yes! Accalia Cups create a seal once inserted correctly so you can rest assured that you won’t have a shark sniffing you out in the ocean.

There are many reasons this may be happening, don’t panic, we will run through some possibilities below. Until you get the leaks under control we suggest wearing a pair of Accalia Underwear or an Accalia Menstrual Pad with your cup.

  • Residual Blood – When you insert your Accalia Cup there will be some residual blood in the vagina, you may be able to wipe this away, otherwise pop on your favourite pair of Accalia underwear or use an Accalia Menstrual Pad to catch the residual blood.
  • Not sealed or Cup not opened – When you insert your Accalia Cup you need to ensure it is fully opened, below your cervix and sealed in place. To test the cup is open run a finger around the edge then give a little tug on the base to make sure it is sealed in place, it won’t be easy to move down if it is sealed correctly.
  • Position – Your cervix should be above the menstrual cup opening. Sometimes your Accalia cup can slide up beside your cervix, remove and re-insert it in the correct position below the cervix if this happens.
  • Size – Perhaps your cup isn’t quite the right fit, everyone has a different shaped anatomy. A general rule of thumb, the S cup for women who are less than 25 years and have not given birth. For all other women, we recommend the L cup.
  • Empty the cup more often – If you are finding your Accalia cup is leaking after a few hours (or more) of use, perhaps you need to empty your cup more frequently

When using a menstrual cup it is common to experience staining and or odours. If you are experiencing staining or odours on your Accalia cup try soaking it in a 50/50 vinegar and water solution for one hour. Sterilise your cup after soaking and leave in the sun to dry.
